Today's professional challenges require the use of the latest solutions that enable specialists from various fields to conduct research and form expert opinions. That’s why our swiss partner PIX4D, a leading developer of specialized software in mapping and photogrammetry, has made a significant leap forward by releasing updates to three software products at once: PIX4Dcatch, PIX4Dmatic, and PIX4Dcloud.
These updated releases cover key industries, from geodesy and mapping to forensics and construction, helping to optimize the data acquisition process and introduce new ways of visualizing and interpreting 3D data.
Engineering and construction
Speed and accuracy are two major challenges faced by field teams in the engineering and construction industries. Their tasks typically involve quickly collecting data (often in challenging working conditions) at physical sites and transferring it to the office for further processing and decision-making. PIX4D simplifies this process.

Get complete data from the field with PIX4D
The updated PIX4Dcatch now features an ‘annotations’ function that allows you to record all notes about an object or area and save them instantly. You can attach images, descriptions, and link them to a pre-processed point cloud.
Each annotation added to PIX4Dcatch is georeferenced and can be uploaded to PIX4Dcloud. From there, all project participants can view, edit, and immediately request additional information, saving time and ensuring complete data accuracy.
PIX4Dcloud now includes a new ‘area of interest’ feature. This can be set in PIX4Dcatch when uploading to PIX4Dcloud or configured later in the cloud platform when starting a new processing job. This upgrade provides more control over your project, enhancing focus and efficiency.
Important: To ensure a seamless experience with your equipment, PIX4Dcatch supports RTK positioning, including full integration with the Topcon HiPer CR. This compact, robust, and high-performance GNSS receiver is fully compatible with the system as soon as it’s connected, allowing users to collect data quickly and without additional setup.
Geodesy and cartography
Accuracy and productivity are essential for the effective work of surveyors. However, disconnected tools, manual operations, and poor data quality can slow down the process. Moreover, traditional technical methods, while effective, are often difficult to implement in the field. PIX4D addresses this challenge with its innovative GeoFusion algorithm in the PIX4Dcatch software.
This algorithm enhances data capture, increases the stability of augmented reality through the use of automarkers, and optimizes the 3D point cloud for higher density and noise reduction. These improvements are especially valuable when working in complex or confined tunnel spaces.
Documenting tunnels with GeoFusion
GeoFusion intelligently combines visual and positional signals to maintain accurate geo-referencing, even when the RTK signal is weak or unavailable in tunnels or densely populated urban areas. The solution is ideal for infrastructure inspection, tunnel documentation, construction phase monitoring, and other applications where GPS cannot provide consistent results.
At the processing stage, surveyors can take advantage of hybrid modeling, seamlessly combining a LiDAR-based system that works effectively in low light conditions and provides high accuracy even in small areas, with photogrammetry in one workflow. Whether using handheld scanners, drone-mounted LiDAR, or ground capture imagery, the workflow delivers high-quality 3D mesh models, DSMs, and orthophotos.
Example of a scalable grid design
Datasets captured with PIX4Dcatch and processed on a PC can now be uploaded to PIX4Dcloud, where a new feature called ‘Gaussian splatting’ is available. This solution enhances the experience of working with 3D results by creating smoother and more dynamic renders. It is especially effective for showcasing complex spaces, such as infrastructure or densely populated urban areas, in a visually appealing and intuitive format.
Criminalistics
The updated PIX4D solutions simplify the work of forensic scientists by removing technical barriers. With an intuitive interface, enhanced processing algorithms in PIX4Dmatic, and a unified ecosystem, the process of reconstructing an event and documenting an investigation is optimized, regardless of the technical source of information.

Scanning of premises
Limited space and low light are key challenges in indoor scanning. In the updated version of the products, the developer integrates PIX4D Autotags and GCPs (Ground Control Points) directly into the AR cloud alignment process. As a result, internal data coverage becomes more accurate and significantly more affordable.
