  • AMS 2 Pro vs AMS: The AMS 2 Pro is the latest generation with improved feeding reliability, better humidity control, and support for a wider range of materials including TPU. The original AMS is compatible with older X1 and P1 series printers.
  • Do you need it? If you print single-color models only — no. If you want to print multi-color designs, logos, text in different colors, or multi-material models — yes, AMS is essential.
  • AMS Hub: Allows connecting multiple AMS units to a single printer, expanding to 8 or 12 color slots for complex multi-color prints.

What is the difference between Textured PEI, Smooth PEI, and Cool Plate?

Each plate is optimized for different materials and use cases:

  • Textured PEI — The most versatile plate. Works well with PLA, PETG, TPU, and most standard filaments. The textured surface gives prints a matte finish on the bottom layer and provides excellent adhesion without glue.
  • Smooth PEI — Best for ABS, ASA, PC, and engineering materials that need a smooth bottom surface. Requires higher bed temperatures and sometimes a light glue stick application.
  • Cool Plate (SuperTack) — Designed specifically for PLA and PLA variants. Provides excellent adhesion at lower temperatures and releases prints easily when the plate cools down — ideal for high-volume PLA printing.
  • Quick guide: Most users → Textured PEI. ABS/ASA/engineering → Smooth PEI. High-volume PLA → Cool Plate SuperTack.

What are the 3D Effect Sheets and what are they used for?

3D Effect Sheets are specialty build plate surfaces that add texture to the bottom layer of your prints:

  • What they do: Create a unique visual texture pattern on the bottom surface of your print — leather grain, carbon fiber weave, wood grain, and other patterns depending on the sheet.
  • How they work: Place the sheet on your existing build plate and print directly on it — the texture transfers onto the first layer of your model.
  • Best for: Decorative prints, product mockups, custom merchandise, cosplay props, and any application where the bottom surface is visible and aesthetics matter.
  • Reusable: Sheets can be used multiple times — replace when the texture starts to degrade or adhesion becomes inconsistent.
